Incorporating Energy Healing for Better Health
A quick guide to what, how and why.

Modern day living, with its constant frenetic buzz of noise, activity, and connectivity through devices is the leading cause of chronic stress which saps people of their energy and their zest for life. Ironically, when it comes to treating the ailments of the rat race, ancient  healing methods might be just one of the best remedies.

You’ve probably come across the term energy healing and its many forms.

So what exactly is energy healing? And what role can it play in helping you to reach equilibrium, enabling you to deal with the demands of the workplace while nurturing yourself and others at home?

Energy healing is based on the theory that illness results from disturbances in the body's energy fields which can be addressed via interventions into the deficient energy fields.

Within and surrounding your body is an energy field, which is invisible to the naked eye.It is also called your aura, or your chakras. The Chinese call this energy “qi” and it is a state of constant flux, depending on how you feel and how you react to situations. That relentless movement in your energy field can become imbalanced when the daily experiences you have leave an indelible chink in your aura - be it through negative experiences or interacting with toxic people -  which causes your energy flow to go into stasis. Hence, points in your energy field can be weak or strong and vibrant or lethargic.

What does Science say?

Advancements in the study of hormones and their part in regulating stress levels and in preventing disease is shedding scientific light on energy fields.

Stress is often the prime way that energy flows become choked, which invariably leads to health problems.

But, stress accumulates in men and women in very distinct ways.

As more women move into the workplace, they adopt more masculine qualities such as problem solving, decision making detachment and independence. This freedom to express their male side is critical, but without support to return to their natural feminine state, this tension causes their stress levels to rise, resulting in frustration with their relationships and life in general. When a woman is stressed her estrogen falls, pushing her stress levels up and her energy down.

In a similar way, when men express more of their female side at work and home, their stress levels climb. With more men expressing female qualities such as cooperation, nurturing and interdependence in and outside the home, testosterone levels have plummeted. This situation has been exacerbated by the proliferation of female hormones in the food chain. In turn, this has aggravated mens’ stress levels and suppressed their energy, generating feelings of dissatisfaction.

For women, it is thus essential to increase her estrogen levels by expressing female traits and for men, his testosterone, by expressing male traits. This helps to keep energy fields on a higher frequency, leading to good health.

Advancements made in quantum physics also substantiates the view that how energy flows through the body impacts total wellbeing.

According to quantum physicists, all matter is made up of energy. If you shrink down to the sub-atomic level, you will be confronted by “super  strings” which are the purest forms of energy in the universe. The frequency with which these ‘strings’ vibrate determine the type of matter formed. These particles then interact with each other to form atoms. These atoms interlock to become molecules, which ultimately forms cells - the building blocks of life.

In a nutshell, like a stringed instrument, you  can tune these strings to frequencies that are more beneficial to your health and wellbeing. But, like a poorly tuned instrument, if you don’t pay attention to your energy levels, you will find that things get out of parity quickly. Blockages - invariably caused by stress in the external environment -  will worsen over time if they are not resolved. Failure to notice that your body is out of tune leads many people to suffer needlessly from disease, depression, anxiety and stress.

Energy healing is one way in which these imbalances can be addressed.

“The natural healing force within each of us is the greatest force in getting well.”

Types of Energy Healing

Energy healing can be categorised into five different types:

Body/Physical

This is the form of energy healing most people are familiar with. Maybe the practitioner is massaging your feet or scalp or adjusting your spine. Either way, there will be a physical element to the healing.

Examples: Reflexology, Aromatherapy, Ayurvedic Medicine, Rolfing, Feng Shui, Biofeedback, Craniosacral Therapy, Restorative Touch

Mind

This is energy healing designed to undo old thought patterns buried deep in your subconscious or to help you overcome limiting beliefs.

Examples: Lindwall Releasing, Past Life Regression, Dreamwork, Neuro-Linguistic Programming, The Work by Byron Katie, Theta Healing

Spiritual

This approach involves invoking spirit guides to heal you. They tend to incorporate ancient indigenious Shamanic rituals.

Examples: Reiki, Akashic Record Healing, Spiritualism

Meridians

According to Chinese Medicine, our bodies consist of meridians, or energy lines, that flow up or down. Sometimes they get blocked due to stress, emotional trauma or poor lifestyle choices. Meridian focused energy healing works to release the blockages so you can replenish lost energy and restore vitality.

Examples: Acupuncture, Moxibustion, Qigong, EMotional Freedom Technique, Jin Shin Jyutsu

Vibrational

This form of energy healing centres on your current energetic frequency and works to tune your body with higher harmonious vibrations.

Examples: Flower Essences, Crystal Healing, Chakra healing, HeartMath

However, given that whatever you do physically will affect your mind and spirit as well, and vice versa, it is important to adopt a multi-faceted approach to energy healing, adopting different practices that address each of these various aspects.

On their own, these healing modalities can provide visible relief, but the effects may not last for the long term if any other element is not completely addressed.

Let holistic healing be your ultimate aim, where all three facets of your self - body, mind and spirit - are completely aligned.
